About Our School > Suaimhneas ASD Unit





The initial class for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Suaimhneas, was established in September 2002. The class was funded and resourced by the Department of Education and Science initially.




In September 2008 the Autism Services at St. Flannan's N.S. were developed to "Unit" status to include 2 classrooms. Construction on a new ASD Unit consisting of two classrooms plus ancillary rooms for O.T., a multi-sensory room, para-educational rooms, one to one rooms for child withdrawal if required, a multi-purpose room and appropriate toilets, shower and sluice room.

Extensive local fundraising was carried out to fully fund the building development of various programmes and the services required, such as Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy.
